Drawing Curriculum

A Science Art Method™ Application Module By Nature of Art®

This drawing curriculum presents a structured collection of drawing studio experiences organized by increasing material and skill complexity.

The sequence is intentionally designed to show how drawing actions, materials, and visual concepts relate to one another over time. Educators use these studios to prepare drawing environments, observe children’s engagement, and support independent exploration.

This curriculum demonstrates application of the Science Art Method™.

It does not teach diagnostic decision-making, developmental sequencing, or instructional judgment.

Those are taught exclusively inside Nature of Arts® – The Art Teaching Blueprint™ course.

What This Curriculum Offers

  • A clearly organized scope and sequence of drawing studio experiences
  • Prepared lessons that can be scheduled weekly, biweekly, or monthly
  • Studio designs that highlight foundational drawing actions and visual concepts
  • Guidance for setting up materials in a prepared environment
  • Alignment with national and international visual arts standards

Educators do not need to be artists to use this curriculum. The studios are designed to support observation, repetition, and independent work.

How the Curriculum Is Used

Educators prepare drawing materials and environments using the provided guidance.

Each studio experience includes:

  • an overview of the drawing focus
  • suggested materials
  • notes on what may be observed during engagement

The curriculum is designed to support independent drawing over time.

This curriculum does not focus on copying images.
It emphasizes exploration of drawing actions and visual elements through repeated engagement with materials.

About the Sequence

This curriculum includes 47 studio progressions organized to demonstrate relationships between:

  • line
  • shape
  • form
  • spatial awareness
  • increasing visual and motor complexity

The sequence reflects material and skill relationships, not a prescription for when a child should be introduced to a particular experience.

Selection, pacing, and duration depend on observation, environment, and educator judgment.

Age Range & Editions

Two editions are available to reflect differences in material demands and complexity:

  • Early Childhood Edition
Focuses on introductory drawing actions and foundational material exploration
  • Elementary Edition

Educators select experiences based on context, observation, and environment rather than age alone.

Educational Alignment

This curriculum:

  • Supports visual arts learning through the Elements and Principles of Design
  • Reflects the artistic process through open-ended studio work
  • Meets and exceeds national and international core arts standards

It is intended to support long-term development of drawing confidence and independence.

Hi, I’m Spramani.

I’m an artist, homeschool mom, art teacher, and art studio owner.

When I decided to teach art to children over twenty years ago, I struggled to find any art curriculum to follow that was appropriate for children.

Today, I’ve taught tens of thousands children art through my traveling art studio by attending some of the largest education conferences in all pedagogies, hosting the largest homeschool conferences nationally, and offering school visual arts programming.

I became really good at teaching children, which has led me to write 9 art education books.

I now travel internationally and train teachers how to bring art literacy into their classrooms.

I’ve spent thousands of hours perfecting art lessons for children of all ages.

Now I want to help you offer your students art lessons with my proven method!
