A Science Art Method™ Clay Modeling Curriculum By Nature of Art®

Kids Clay Modeling is a structured curriculum presenting 29 clay studio experiences organized by increasing material handling and sculptural complexity.

This curriculum demonstrates how clay materials and modeling actions can be offered within a prepared environment aligned with the Science Art Method™. Educators use these lessons to prepare clay workspaces, observe children’s engagement, and support independent exploration of form and structure.

This curriculum demonstrates application of the Science Art Method™ by Nature of Art®.

It does not teach diagnostic decision-making, developmental sequencing, or instructional judgment.

Those are taught exclusively inside The Art Teaching Blueprint™ Certification.

About the Clay Modeling Sequence

Kids Clay Modeling includes 29 studio progressions that demonstrate relationships between:

  • clay handling actions
  • pressure and resistance
  • form construction
  • increasing motor and spatial complexity

The sequence is intentionally organized to show material and skill relationships.

Selection, pacing, and duration depend on observation, environment, and educator judgment.

How the Curriculum Is Used

Educators prepare clay materials and tools using the provided guidance.

Each lesson experience includes:

  • an overview of the clay modeling focus
  • suggested materials and tools
  • notes on what may be observed during engagement

The curriculum supports independent clay modeling rather than copying forms or producing predetermined outcomes.

Children engage with clay repeatedly, allowing familiarity with material resistance, shaping actions, and form development to emerge over time.

Hi, I’m Spramani

I’m an artist, homeschool mom, art teacher, and art studio owner.

When I decided to teach art to children over twenty years ago I struggled to find any art curriculum to follow that was appropriate for children.

Today, I’ve taught tens of thousands children art through my traveling art studio by attending some of the largest education conferences in all pedagogies, hosting the largest homeschool conferences art studio nationally, and after school visual art programing.

I became really good at teaching children which has led me to write 7 art education books.

I now travel internationally and train teacher’s how to bring art literacy into their classrooms.

I’ve spent thousands of hours perfecting art lessons for children of all ages.

Now I want to help you teach your students art lessons with my proven art method!
